Various places I frequented back then carried The University of Calgary's newspaper, The Gauntlet - which had a comics section. So it seemed like a great place for showing off my illustration ability - when not window painting.
At the time, I didn't own a computer, have a website, or have any money for advertising. So anywhere I could showcase my artwork without a financial investment was good enough for me.
I submitted a comic strip to the The Gauntlet - the strip was only a bit of a step up from what I had been doing in my Red Binder for a few years previously.
The Thinking Man's Idiocies or TMI was well received and became a regular, weekly installment in The Gauntlet's Comix Section from 1994 until mid 1999. The staff and other contributers during those days, made the process enjoyable. Being there for as long as I was lead to a few other TMI themed things. My own two t-shirts, a few TMI spoof comic strips (by other contributors) and then eventually the Frosh Week Supplement and t-shirt.
Think about it ...a strip a week, for nearly five years, left me with a this burgeoning collection. Which I continued with...
...but not until I would have my own website up and running by about mid 2003.
Now ofcourse, I may not meet a monthly quota of 4 or more comic strips, but I do try to write, draw and post online as often as I can... so please, stay tuned!
